Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie is the nation’s most exciting, horse racing venue, and is open year-round. Lone Star offers thoroughbred and standardbred racing, as well as a 36,000 square foot simulcast wagering venue. The simulcast facility is a modern state of the art facility which is adjacent to the Lone Star Grandstand and is highlighted by a Las Vegas-style race book, a sports bar, and a casual dining facility.
Lone Star Park is owned and operated by Magna Entertainment Corp. (”MEC”), North America's number one owner and operator of horse racetracks. MEC currently operates and manages seven thoroughbred racetracks, one standardbred (harness racing) racetrack and two racetracks which run both thoroughbred and standardbred racing venues.
Requirement Analysis:
Lone Star Park has part/full time, hourly, salaried and tipped employees with varying pay rates, pay classes etc. Calculating all employee wages and managing tipped employees was complicated. According to Matt Jusko, the IT Director, Lone Star Park “During our research phase for the enhancement of our existing system, we consulted our Sage ABRA reseller. They recommended Employee Based Systems, because they felt that EBS already had developed product solutions which would enable us to deal with all the payroll issues that we faced.”
Flexible Solution:
Using EZ-Tip software product from EBS, which runs inside the Abra payroll system, Lone Star Park is now able to calculate all of tip data for its hourly tipped employees. After a successful implementation of EZ-Tip, we also decided to use EZ-Wage and Tax application which facilitated the calculation of part time and salaried employees’ wage and tax calculations, even with varied pay rate and pay classes in use. The EZ-GL product from EBS enables to create a transactions file that is easily posted to the accounting system’s General Ledger. The final EBS product in use is EZ-Time Import. Currently Lone Star Park is using Kronos as its Time and Attendance system, which generates employees’ punch data. These data can be automatically imported into Sage Abra using EZ-Time Import. These solutions offered a great deal of relief in payroll processing.
